Cooling Coil

Cooling coils are heat exchange elements installed in air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), and custom air-conditioning systems to cool and dehumidify supply air. Constructed from copper tubes mechanically expanded into aluminium fins, cooling coils transfer thermal energy from the airstream to the circulating chilled water (in hydronic systems) or directly to expanding refrigerant (in DX systems). MEP engineers size cooling coils based on sensible and latent heat loads, entering/leaving air conditions (dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures), chilled water supply and return temperatures (typically 7°C/12°C), face velocity, fin spacing, and allowable air-side pressure drop. Coil selection must also account for condensate drainage, anti-microbial coatings in hygiene-sensitive applications, and corrosion-resistant fin coatings for coastal or chemically aggressive environments. We supply standard and custom cooling coils to match new AHU builds and replacement programmes across commercial, industrial, and cleanroom HVAC projects.
